Rob Almeida Joins Flagship

We are pleased to announce maritime and offshore media pioneer Rob Almeida has officially joined the team at Flagship Management after stepping down from his role as Editor and Chief Marketing Officer at gCaptain.com last week.

“My first entry into the maritime industry was with many of the folks at Flagship about eight years ago. At the time, I was coming off of active duty as an officer in the U.S. Navy. While I found success in the role, the lure of learning about other careers and the fascinating things going on in the industry – particularly the offshore sector at the time – was the motivation I needed to pull chocks and experience some of it for myself… and so I did,” notes Almeida.

For the past five years Rob had helped develop gCaptain from a little known blog to become the top-read news website globally within the industry. “It was a humbling and incredibly rewarding experience to have created something so globally revered over these past five years,” says Almeida. “I don’t think I ever quite understood why it caught on like it did until just this week when friends of mine highlighted the fact that gCaptain had “personal” written all over it. We weren’t afraid to do things a bit differently and that’s the way we liked it. For me, gCaptain was most certainly a personal mission and I knew very well the huge responsibility we had to deliver the goods to our readers.”

Rob Almeida is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a degree in Naval Architecture and served 6.5 years as a surface warfare officer before transitioning into the maritime industry and offshore drilling sector. He lives in Annapolis, Maryland and is on the board of the Annapolis Maritime Society.
